Kolkata Police launches ‘Path Safety Week’ as road accidents dip in first half of 2025

Kolkata Police has launched ‘Path Safety Week’, a road safety awareness drive that will run across the city from July 1 to July 8. The campaign was formally inaugurated by Police Commissioner Manoj Verma, who addressed road safety concerns and shared updated accident statistics. He stated that Kolkata Police works year-round on road safety, with all traffic guards and police stations actively involved in the effort.

According to the Commissioner, road accident figures have shown a decline in the first half of 2025. He said, “In the first six months of 2024, there were 92 road accidents. In the same period of 2025, this number has reduced to 84.” The data reflects a drop of 8 accidents, which the police attribute to continuous enforcement and awareness initiatives.

The campaign will be implemented citywide through the participation of 26 traffic guards and multiple police stations. Activities will involve school students and community members, aiming to spread awareness about road safety and reduce the number of accidents. The programme will include public interaction, street campaigns, and traffic discipline messaging throughout the week.
